Ingredients:

Syrup:

  1. 2 cups frozen berries

  2. 1/3 cup water

  3. 3 tbsp. maple syrup

  4. 1/2 tsp. cinnamon

  5. 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract

French Toast:

  1. loaf challah, sliced and left out to dry

  2. 1 1⁄2 cups whole milk or 1 1⁄2 cups half and half

  3. 6 large eggs

  4. 1 pinch salt, to taste

  5. 1 tbsp honey

  6. Dash of nutmeg

  7. 1⁄2 tsp vanilla

  8. butter (for frying)

  9. A dash of Amaretto (it adds a great level of flavor if you drink liquor)

Directions:

For the Syrup: Step 1

Place the above ingredients in a small saucepan and bring to a boil. Use a wooden spoon and smash any large berries up a bit.

Step 2

After the mixture has come to a boil, reduce heat to medium-low and let simmer for 10 minutes until it reduces and is thick enough to cover the back of a spoon.

Step 3

Enjoy warm or cold.

For French Toast:

Step 1

In a shallow dish large enough to hold three slices of challah side by side, whisk eggs and milk.

Step 2

Add amaretto, honey, vanilla and salt

Step 3

Place three slices of the bread in the egg mixture and let soak about three minutes each side.

Step 4

Meanwhile melt one tbsp of butter in a large frying pan.

Step 5

Transfer challah to pan and cook 3 minutes on each side or until nicely browned.

Step 6

Top with Triple Berry Syrup, whip cream and fresh berries
